Who we are
gusstories.ca is the website of Gus Doiron, a writer in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Gus, and "you" means anyone using the site. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
Reading and printing the stories
Every story on this site is free to read online and free to print. You're welcome to print a story for yourself, your family, or to read aloud to others.
The stories, pictures and recordings belong to Gus Doiron. Please don't republish them, sell them, or post them somewhere else as your own. Sharing a link to a story is always welcome. If you'd like to use a story some other way, ask Gus.
The $15 membership
- A membership costs $15 (Canadian), paid once. It is not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel.
- Membership lets you listen to the recordings of the stories on the site. Stories stay free to read and print for everyone, members or not.
- Recordings are added over time. Your membership covers the recordings on the site now and the ones added later, for as long as the site offers them.
- Your membership is for you and your household. Please don't share your sign-in links or download and pass the recordings around.
Payments
Payments are handled by Stripe. You enter your card details on Stripe's own secure page; they never reach this website. Stripe's own terms and privacy policy also apply to your payment.
If something goes wrong with a payment, or you have a question about it, send Gus a message and he'll sort it out with you.
Signing in
Members sign in with a link sent by email. There is no password. A sign-in link works once and expires after a short time. Please keep sign-in emails to yourself, since anyone with a fresh link could sign in as you.
Emails from us
- Subscribers. Anyone can sign up for emails with the form on the site. We send a link to confirm your address first, and only add you once you click it.
- Members. When you buy a membership you're added to the members' email list, so you hear about new stories and recordings. You can stop these emails any time.
- What we send. A note when Gus posts a new story or recording, and now and then an email Gus writes himself. Sign-in links are sent only when you ask for one.
- Every email (apart from sign-in links) has a link at the bottom to stop them, which takes you off every list at once. We don't give your email address to anyone else.
Contacting Gus
When you send a message through the contact page, please keep it friendly and lawful. Gus may not be able to answer every message.
Links to other sites
The site links to places like Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube and CBC. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for what's on them.
Using the site fairly
Please don't try to break into the site, get at recordings without a membership, or do anything that would slow it down or stop other people from using it.
No guarantees
We work to keep the site running and the recordings playing, but we can't promise the site will always be available or free of mistakes. The stories are fiction; in Gus's words, don't take any errors in spelling and punctuation too seriously. As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for losses that come from using, or not being able to use, the site.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change affects what members get for their $15, we'll say so on the site.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the laws of Nova Scotia and the laws of Canada that apply there.
